Hanna-Mari Baldauf has a profound knowledge of virology and molecular biology. She is also a fantastic group leader with a hands-on, team-driven approach to solve any problems that arise. Outside of work, she's a mother to two young children and loves geocaching and baking.
ALEJANDRO SALINAS-ILLARENA, M.SC.
Doctoral Student
Alejandro completed a Master's degree in Biochemistry at the LMU Munich. After an internship and Master's thesis with us, he returned as a doctoral student and is our synthetic biology expert. In his free time, he likes to swim and try out new healthy recipes.
ALEXANDRA JUDITH KOCH, M.SC.
Doctoral student
Alexandra completed a Master's degree in Animal Biology and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. She has joined us to delve into ancient lentivirus expression mechanisms. When she's not in the lab, she enjoys doing Yoga, baking and traveling.
MARSHALL BRICKHEIMER, M.SC.
Technical assistant
Marshall completed a Master's degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Cologne. He assists with multiple projects of current and former members, as well as administrative tasks within the lab. In his free time, he enjoys music, movies, and traveling the world.
SELIN AIDIN
Medicine doctoral student
Selin is currently a medicine student at the LMU Munich and joined the VIIRAL team as a medicine doctoral student for a year. Besides her interest in oncology, she loves to read and bake.

Yanis completed a Master's degree in Biochemistry at the LMU Munich. After an internship and Master's thesis with us, he returned as a doctoral student.
MARIA HERCHER, M.SC.
Doctoral Student, Bundeswehr
Maria completed a Master's degree in Biochemistry at TU-Braunschweig. She worked in the USA for 5 years in big Biotech/Pharma, then returned to Germany to pursue her doctoral studies. Outside of the lab, she enjoys meeting friends in a cocktail bar, 3D printing at home, and swimming in lakes.
FIDELIA RITZ, M.SC.
Doctoral Student, Bundeswehr
Fidelia studied Biochemistry at TUM, completing her Master’s Thesis at the Bundeswehr Institute for Microbiology. She builds on her background in genetic engineering to investigate Orthoflaviviruses at the blood-brain-barrier. During her free time, she enjoys reading and going to concerts/festivals.
